Instagram launches new ‘Snapchat-killer’ app that lets you send disappearing photos and videos

Facebook, along with Instagram, has come up with a messaging application that seems to give Snapchat a very tough competition. The ‘Snapchat-killer’ application has been also revealed as ‘Threads’.

Just like Instagram has a feature to restrict your shared items to your list of ‘Close Friends ‘, Threads will also allow you to do similar things.

Along with pictures, you can even share location data and statuses with friends, much like you can on Snapchat.

Facebook is describing it as a visual first way of messaging. But there has been no new news regarding the launch date or country of the update. It is believed that the usage will be, however, made freely available.

According to a recent blog post made by Facebook, where they said “Over the last few years, we’ve introduced several new ways to share visually on Instagram and connect with people you care about – from sharing everyday moments on Stories to visual messages on Direct.

“But for your smaller circle of friends, we saw the need to stay connected throughout the day, so you can communicate what you’re doing and how you’re feeling through photos and videos.

“That’s why we built Threads, a new way to message with close friends in a dedicated, private space.

“Threads will be in a separate app to Instagram but they will be linked.”
